RIT event focuses on improved accessibility

The Rochester Institute of Technology is playing host to its second annual Effective Access Technology Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The two-day conference is expected draw more than 300 people as it connects experts to discuss applying technology to help improve accessibility for people with different levels of disabilities.

The conference includes lectures by various experts, including Mike Haynie, the executive director and founder of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University, and Christian Vogler, the director of the technology access program at Gallaudet University.

Tuesday’s events begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday’s schedule of speakers runs 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The university has more than 60 effective access technology projects underway and has sponsored research totaling $16 million toward the initiative, officials said. Projects can be seen at YouTube.
