RG&E boosts incentives for energy-efficient lighting upgrades

Rochester Gas & Electric increased incentives for energy-efficient lighting upgrades in qualifying apartment buildings.

Common-area lighting upgrades in five- to 50-unit apartment buildings are being covered by RG&E—70 percent of costs for hardwired fixtures and 100 percent of costs for LED and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

The existing program includes free installation of up to six CFL bulbs and free installation of energy-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators in apartments. RISE Engineering, an RG&E contractor, will also provide lighting and water heater assessments for the same qualifying apartments free of charge.

“Switching to CFL or LED bulbs that use 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times as long as comparable incandescent bulbs will help cut energy bills,” said Mark Lynch, president and CEO of RG&E.
