Runnings, a Minnesota-based home, farm and outdoor retailer, is opening three new stores in Upstate New York this September. The new locations will open in Canandaigua, Gloversville and Rome, adding a combined roughly 240 jobs to the upstate economy, company officials said.

“We explored several places to introduce a new region to Runnings, and we found Upstate New York has tremendous communities for our unique retail development and friendly, hometown service,” said Daniel Herrmann, Runnings chief operations officer, in a statement. “We don’t just open stores, we want to be a part of the community, creating jobs, increasing the tax base and providing top quality brands with great products families use every day.”

Each location will be 300,000 square feet comprised of existing vacant retail space in each community and newly developed space.

Runnings has been in business for 67 years and has 34 stores across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. It employs 1,500 people.
