Xerox holds employer title among public firms

Rochester Business Journal
July 23, 2014

The Big Three is no more, but one of the trio of iconic Rochester companies—Xerox Corp. —ranks as the region's largest publicly held employer, according to the RBJ 75 special supplement to be published Friday. Xerox employs 6,722 people in the six-county Rochester area, up nearly 300 from a year ago.

The second-largest public company employer regionally is Paychex Inc., with 3,933 employees.

Though now a fraction of its peak local employment, Eastman Kodak Co. (2,300) still earns third place among the public companies. Completing the top five among public companies are Harris Corp. RF Communications Division and—in a tie—Frontier Communications Corp. and Verizon Wireless Inc.

Now in its 26th year, the RBJ 75 list annually ranks the region's largest private-sector employers: public, private and non-profit. All current RBJ subscribers will receive a copy of the RBJ 75 supplement with the July 25 issue. To pre-order extra copies, go to the RBJ Newsstand.
