Constellation Brands Inc. has elected to its board of directors Ernesto Hernandez, president and managing director of General Motors de Mexico, S. de R.L. de C.V.

Hernandez, 56, has served in his current position at the Mexican subsidiary of General Motors Co. since 2011. Prior to that, he served as vice president and executive director of sales, service and marketing of General Motors de Mexico. Hernandez began his career with General Motors de Mexico in 1980.

"We are very pleased to welcome Ernesto to the board of directors and believe his experience with General Motors, a major multinational and Mexican consumer products company, will provide excellent guidance as Constellation continues to build its beer business," said Constellation chairman Richard Sands in a statement.

The Victor-based firm also announced Paul Smith has retired from the board. Smith—a retired Eastman Kodak Co. executive—joined the Constellation Brands board in 1997.
