The LeRoy Fire Department’s treasurer has been arrested and charged with the theft of public funds.

Dennis Snow faces two counts of grand larceny in the third degree, 42 counts of forgery in the first degree and two counts of falsifying business records in the first degree for allegedly stealing some $50,000 in public funds, New York comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said Tuesday.

An investigation by his office uncovered unauthorized transfers, withdrawals and deposits from the department’s account and withdrawals from the Firemen's Benevolent Association, DiNapoli said.

The comptroller’s audit of the LeRoy Fire Department is ongoing.

“I commend the village of LeRoy police department and (Genesee County) District Attorney (Lawrence) Friedman for working closely with my staff to make sure this individual is held accountable for his actions,” DiNapoli said.
