RF Communications parent reports drop in unit's Q4 sales

Harris Corp.’s RF Communications Tuesday reported a drop in fiscal fourth-quarter sales and operating income.

The Rochester-based segment logged sales of $493 million, down from $501 million in the prior year. Tactical Communications revenue was $348 million, up 4 percent, and Public Safety revenue was $145 million, down 12 percent.

Segment operating income was $141 million. In the prior year, segment operating income was $176 million.

Orders for the segment totaled $361 million, including $232 million in Tactical Communications and $129 million in Public Safety.

For the fiscal year, RF Communications reported sales of $1.83 billion, down from sales of $1.85 billion a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $561.5 million, down from $576.9 million.

RF Communications employs 2,100 local workers.

The results were included in Florida-based Harris’ quarterly report.

Harris posted quarterly sales of $1.33 billion compared with $1.36 billion the year before. Income from continuing operations was $138 million, or $1.28 a diluted share, compared with $71 million, or 65 cents a diluted share, a year ago.

Last year’s results included charges related to restructuring and other actions. Excluding those, income from continuing operations was $154 million, or $1.41 a diluted share.

For the fiscal year 2014, revenue was $5.01 billion compared with $5.11 billion in fiscal 2013.
