Gasoline prices here hit lowest level since April

Rochester Business Journal

Gasoline prices in Rochester this week dropped to their lowest level since April, a weekly survey by GasBuddy shows.

Prices fell to $3.73 a gallon on Aug. 4. That was down nearly 10 cents a gallon from the same week a year ago. Still, Rochester’s gas prices remain consistently higher than the national average of $3.49 a gallon.

“In recent years we’ve seen August refinery utilization slip a bit below July numbers and if that happens we may see prices increase, especially in areas where consumers are flocking to enjoy the remainder of the summer driving season,” GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Gregg Laskoski said.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in New York regular gas averaged $3.75 a gallon on Aug. 4. That was down significantly from $3.89 a gallon six weeks ago.

U.S. refineries processed record volumes of oil in July, EIA reported. Refinery inputs hit 16.8 million barrels a day, surpassing the previous record from summer 2005.

GasBuddy operates more than 250 websites tracking gas prices at more than 140,000 stations nationwide, including RochesterGasPrices.com. In Rochester GasBuddy tracks price changes at more than 300 retail outlets.
