RIT grads to buy P.W. Minor in Batavia for $2.85M

Batavia shoemaker P.W. Minor and Son Inc., scheduled to close at the end of July, will be sold for $2.85 million to two Rochester Institute of Technology graduates, preserving 50 jobs with 17 more to be created, officials announced Thursday.

A manufacturer and distributor of leather footwear and orthopedic products, P.W. Minor will be sold to Batavia Shoes LLC and new owners Andrew Young and Peter Zeliff, officials said.

Young is founder and president of the Young Group of Real Estate Cos. and co-founder and principal of Pakhound Inc., a package-tracking business and P.W. Minor client sold in 2005 to Omaha, Neb.-based BirdDog Solutions Inc.

Young was a Rochester Business Journal Forty under 40 award winner in 2003.

Zeliff is senior executive vice president and chief operating officer at EIF Renewable Energy Holdings LLC, parent of Innovative Energy Systems LLC in Oakfield, Genesee County.

The Empire State Development Corp. will provide the new owners with tax credits of up to $449,505 if they fulfill their commitment to add new jobs, officials said.

P.W. Minor was founded in 1867 by two brothers who returned from service in the Civil War, officials said. It is the oldest company in Genesee County.
