Xerox Corp. plans to lay off more than 120 workers at its Webster site this fall, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the state Labor Department. The company notified employees Monday.
The WARN filing says 121 employees will be affected, but a company spokesperson put the number at 123.
The job cuts will occur by Nov. 17 and are due to economic factors, the notice states. They are due to the closing of its facilities maintenance operation on Phillips Road in Webster. Xerox plans to outsource the work to Chicago-based JLL (NYSE: JLL), formerly known as Jones Lang LaSalle.
A company statement said the closing of the Site & Facilities Services unit was a business decision based on the firm’s “global strategy of exiting non-core activities.”
Xerox ranked first on the most recent Rochester Business Journal list of manufacturers, with 6,722 local workers. It had added nearly 300 jobs over the last 12 months.
