First Niagara, M&T rank among insurance brokerage fee leaders

Brighton-based First Niagara Risk Management Inc. ranked sixth nationally and M&T Bank Corp. was 10th on a list of 20 banks with the largest insurance brokerage fee income for 2013.

The list was released this month by the Insurance Journal, a trade publication.

First Niagara Risk Management generated revenue of nearly $73 million last year, moving up the list from 11th for 2012. M&T generated $40.1 million in 2013.

First Niagara Financial Group Inc. in Buffalo ranked 11th among holding companies last year with income of $72.5 million from insurance brokerage fees. M&T ranked 18th at $40.2 million.
