Ground has been broken for E.J. Del Monte Corp.’s new hotel in the Pittsburgh suburbs, company officials announced Thursday.

The Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh/Robinson Township, 12 miles west of Pittsburgh, will be the Pittsford firm’s first hotel beyond New York.

“Pittsburgh is an exciting market with a strong base of demand generators including health care, education and energy,” Del Monte president Alexander Del Monte said in a statement.

“This new development fits our strategy to continue to find growth opportunities in larger, more diverse markets.”

The five-story, 118-room hotel in Robinson Township will have 2,300 square feet of meeting space and a full-service restaurant for breakfast and dinner.

The hotel is scheduled to open next summer.

Construction financing was done through First Niagara Financial Group Inc.
