Southpoint Marina to start work on $4M expansion

Southpoint Marina on Irondequoit Bay in Penfield is being expanded and—when the $4 million project is completed—it will be the largest marina facility in the Rochester area, its developer said Monday.

The Daniele family, which owns Mario’s and Bazil restaurants, recently on Jan. 7 received approval from the Penfield Town Board to expand the 186-slip marina by an additional 176 slips, bringing the total boat capacity to 362. Company officials said they are now in the final stages of getting the building permit.

Additional plans approved for the site include a new full-service, 150-seat restaurant, a private pool for marina board members and a clubhouse.

“After almost six years of working in conjunction with all the municipalities involved, we couldn’t be happier to begin this new expansion of the marina,” said Danny Daniele, one of the family owners of the project, in a statement.

Construction of the marina clubhouse is slated to begin by the end of the month, and the new docks are to be available to rent by April, officials said. The restaurant is targeted to open this summer.
