Bully Hill takes gold in 2015 Best of the Web

Bully Hill Vineyards won the gold award for the best overall website at the Rochester Business Journal’s annual Best of the Web Awards.

Nearly 250 people attended the breakfast event March 12 at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside.

Judges praised the website (bullyhillvineyards.com) for its organization, design and content. The site was designed by Dumbwaiter Design.

Nazareth College (naz.edu) received the silver overall award. The University of Rochester Medical Center took the bronze prize for its site (URMC.rochester.edu).

In addition, 12 websites took home awards in industry-specific categories:

Banking and financial services
The Bonadio Group won the category (bonadio.com). The other finalists were Brighton Securities (brightonsecurities.com) and Thorley Wealth Management Inc. (thorleywm.com).

Business and professional services
Bryant Design Studios won the category for its site (bryantdesignstudios.com). The other finalists were IP.com (ip.com) and Pharos Systems International Inc. (pharos.com).

Cultural
PUSH Physical Theatre (pushtheatre.org) won the category. The other finalists were George Eastman House (eastmanhouse.org) and WXXI Public Broadcasting Council (wxxi.org).

Education
Nazareth College (naz.edu) was the winner. The other finalists were EnCompass: Resources for Learning Inc. (encompassresources.org) and Logical Operations Inc. (logicaloperations.com).

Government/community
Regional Transit Service Inc. (myRTS.com) won this category. The other finalists were CGR (cgr.org) and Gates Public Library (gateslibrary.org).

Health care
University of Rochester Medical Center (urmc.rochester.edu) was the winner. The other finalists were Bio-Optronics Inc. (bio-optronics.com) and CooperVision Inc. (coopervision.com).

Human services
Wilson Foundation (wilsonfdn.org) won this category. Lifespan of Greater Rochester Inc. (lifespan-roch.org) and Villa of Hope (villaofhope.org) were the other finalists.

Legal services
D4 LLC (d4discovery.com) was the winner for this category. Boylan Code LLP (boylancode.com) and Lacy Katzen LLP (lacykatzen.com) were the other finalists.

Manufacturing
AstraPouch Inc./Vine Valley Ventures LLC won this category for its site (astrapouch.com). The other finalists were Gleason Corp. (gleason.com) and Troyer Race Cars (troyerracecars.com).

Real estate and construction
Frank Lill & Son Inc. (franklillandson.com) was the winner in this category. The other finalists were Firlit Landscape Design Inc. (firlitdesign.com) and Norbut Renovations (norbutconstruction.com).

Retail
Cornell’s Jewelers (cornellsjewelers.com) received the award. The other finalists were Hedonist Artisan Chocolates (hedonistchocolates.com) and SailorBags (sailorbags.com).

Tourism/hospitality
Bully Hill Vineyards (bullyhillvineyards.com) topped this category. Black Button Distilling (blackbuttondistilling.com) and New York Apple Association (nyapplecountry.com) were the other finalists.

In addition, an award was given for top mobile site, recognizing the growing importance of mobile:

Best mobile
Dixon Schwabl Inc. (dixonschwabl.com) took the honors in this category. Simon Business School (simon.rochester.edu) and the Strong Museum (museumofplay.org) were the other finalists.

Also at the event, Digital Rochester Inc.’s Business Transformation Award was given to Draft Sharks (draftsharks.com) for having transformed its business with the Web. The other finalists were Children’s Institute (childrensinstitute.net), JMS Capital Management Inc. (jms-cm.com) and Roberts Wesleyan (roberts.edu).

Since 1996, the Best of the Web program has recognized the leading efforts among area businesses and non-profits that have a presence on the Internet.

Readers submitted nearly 200 nominations for the 2015 competition. A panel of judges selected by the newspaper evaluated the finalists based on content, usefulness, navigability, use of technology, design quality, e-commerce and likelihood of repeat visits.
