The program is modeled after the Athena Award and nurtures the next generation of leaders while enabling companies and organizations in the community to grow and prosper, officials said. It is designed to discover young women who have displayed outstanding leadership, academic excellence and involvement in the community.
From a group of 20 finalists, four top recipients—one each from the Rochester City School District, a school district east of the city, a school district west of the city of Rochester and a school district located outside of Monroe County—will each receive a $2,000 college scholarship, as well as a paid summer internship at an area company.
The Women’s Council is slated to recognize the finalists May 1. The nomination deadline is March 15 and an application can be found at www.rocwomenscouncil.org.
The Women’s Council is teaming with Entercom Radio’s 98PXY to promote the scholarship program across the Rochester region.
“Partnering with 98PXY allows the Women’s Council to further its mission to recognize and empower women at every stage of their careers,” Women’s Council President Wende Knapp said in a statement. “As these young women begin their career journey, it’s imperative to bring more visibility to their successes and encourage them to bring their talents back to Rochester in order to continue contributing to this community.”
