Five firms named among best places to work in N.Y.

Rochester Business Journal
January 5, 2010

Five of the 40 firms named to the New York State Society for Human Resource Management’s 2010 Best Companies to Work For New York are Rochester area companies.

Working with the Business Council of New York State Inc., the human resources group annually names 20 small to midsize companies and 20 large firms as best places to work in New York. The small to midsize category includes companies employing up to 250.

Area firms to make the 2010 cut are:

  • Interpretek, a Henrietta-based provider of sign-language interpreters and video interpretive services, which also has offices in Omaha and Florida;
  • New Scale Technologies Inc., a Victor company that designs and sells small motion systems used in a variety of products, including phone cameras, micro pumps and micro robotic devices;
  • Perinton-based Paetec Holding Corp., a competitive local exchange carrier providing voice and data services to businesses nationally;
  • Veramark Technologies Inc., a Pittsford-based provider of telecom expense management software and services; and
  • Klein Steel Services Inc., a provider of stock and custom metal products. Klein had announced last week it made the list.

 All except Paetec are in the small to midsize company category.

Those selected will be honored at an awards dinner in Albany in April, when final rankings will be revealed.

To compile the best employer lists, human resource management society weighs candidates’ workplace policies and philosophies, and considers the demographic makeup of firms’ work forces. The 2010 best employers list is the second it has published.

Interpretek, New Scale and Paetec were on the list in 2009, as well.
