City breaks ground on Brooks Court in 19th Ward

Ground was broken Wednesday for the construction of 29 homes at the site of the former Valley Court Apartments in Rochester’s 19th Ward.

The Brooks Court development includes a new street, to be called Brookcrest Way. The street is being constructed now, with residential construction scheduled to begin in September, city officials said.

The single-family, market rate homes will be reminiscent of Craftsman and bungalow styles of the early and mid-1900s, officials said. Woodstone Custom Homes Inc. is on the project.

Designs will include ranch, cape and two-story plans ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 square feet, officials said. Prices will range from $150,000 to $180,000. Each home will have a front porch, two and a half baths and a two-car, attached garage.

When finished, the value of the development is expected to be at least $5.5 million, officials said.

Brooks Court is adjacent to the Brooks Landing area.

“Rochester is improving because of the quality of life in our neighborhoods,” Mayor Thomas Richards said in a statement. “Strong neighborhoods are really what will make Rochester the best mid-sized city in America.”
