Bonadio & Co. to expand with acquisition

Bonadio & Co. LLP will acquire the practice of a Utica-area CPA, strengthening its presence in central New York, the Perinton-based company announced Thursday.

Bonadio will add eight employees from the office in Clinton, Oneida County, and owner Richard Zweifel as managing partner.

Zweifel and his staff work in a building that includes an office of Gruver, Zweifel & Scott LLP but operate independently, Bonadio representatives said. A second Gruver, Zweifel & Scott office, in Oneonta, is not part of the deal.

“Our growth plans across New York State continue in high gear, fueled by mergers like this one with Zweifel’s Utica practice,” CEO and managing partner Thomas Bonadio said in a statement.

Bonadio plans to open an office at the Clinton location this month, after the transaction is completed.

“We always strive to provide our clients with the highest level of service, and we’re always looking for new ways to improve our client experience,” Zweifel said in the statement. “When approached by the Bonadio Group, we knew that we were joining a quality team that has a reputation for providing excellent service to its clients.

“As a result of this merger, we can offer our clients a broader range of services and expertise.”

Bonadio ranked first on the Rochester Business Journal’s most recent list of CPA firms, with 81 CPAs and total staff of 192. The firm has 72 additional CPAs and 139 employees in total outside the local market.
