EarthLink Inc. has been named a winner of 2012 Cloud Computing Excellence Award by Technology Marketing Corp., a global integrated media company.

The awards recognize companies that effectively leverage cloud computing technology. Cloud computing is the use of a network of remote servers that store and manage data and are hosted on the Internet as opposed to local servers and personal computers.

The full list of Cloud Computing Excellence Award winners was published in the October issue of Cloud Computing Magazine. EarthLink was recognized for the cloud hosting solution the company put together for Pennsylvania-based IT services company independenceIT.

Headquartered in Atlanta, EarthLink has more than 3,200 employees nationwide, including 445 in Rochester. Rolla Huff, the company’s CEO, is based in Rochester.
