Site can compare energy costs by zip code

New York Assemblyman Robert Oaks, R-Macedon, wants to make the public aware of an online directory on the New York State Public Service Commission’s website.

The site http://www.newyorkpowertochoose.com/ by zip code allows comparison of energy costs. The directory contains information on energy services companies that have met the Public Service Commission’s and utility requirements to provide energy supply, electricity or natural gas, and other services in New York. The website provides the tools to locate offers based on zip code and service type, compare offers of interest and print and save contact information.

According to the website, the prices and products displayed are just one tool to use in selecting an energy provider. Prices can vary significantly from month to month due to market conditions and weather.

“At a time when many people are looking to reduce their energy costs, this could be a valuable service,” Oaks said in a statement.
