Brand Networks to add 75 jobs, relocate offices

Social marketing service provider Brand Networks Inc. said Tuesday it will add 75 jobs to its Rochester office, which currently has 46 employees.

As part of the growth, the company also plans to invest nearly $2 million to renovate and relocate its offices from South Avenue to a facility in the High Falls area.

The renovation will be assisted by $700,000 in tax credits from Empire State Development Corp.’s Excelsior Jobs Program, officials said.

Brand Networks also was approved for sales-tax exemptions totaling $61,797 on Tuesday by the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency. The benefit to the community is projected to be $348,912. The company plans to spend $772,460 on equipment, furniture and fixtures for 15,000 square feet of renovated space at 61 Commercial St. Its current offices at 250 South Ave. are 5,000 square feet. Brand Networks has its headquarters in Boston. It was founded by CEO Jaime Tedford and Chief Technology Officer Mike Garsin. The majority of the company’s employees are at its engineering offices in Rochester, which are overseen by Garsin.

“With social media usage on the rise, Brand Networks is the type of company that New York State wants to attract and retain,” said Empire State Development president and CEO Kenneth Adams, in a statement. “The project is crucial to the continued resurgence of downtown Rochester, while the company employs tech-savvy young adults and pays them well, bringing substantial money back into the city.”

Mayor Thomas Richards said the expansion of Brand Networks adds momentum to Rochester’s downtown transformation.

“We are especially pleased that a significant number of jobs will be added, and we know there will be no shortage of tech-savvy talent to select from in Rochester as this business grows,” Richards said in a statement. “The city congratulates Brand Networks Inc., and we look forward to working with this firm as it continues to thrive.”

Brand Networks’ primary focus is on the development of Facebook applications for national clients such as Starbucks Corp., JetBlue Airways Corp. and American Express Co. Last September, Brand Networks was one of 12 social marketing companies designated by Facebook Inc. as a Strategic Preferred Marketing Developer.

“Great software engineering talent isn’t confined to Silicon Valley,” CTO Garsin said. “Right here in Rochester we’ve had tremendous success attracting a talent pipeline from leading computer science and software engineering programs at RIT and University of Rochester.

“As a University of Rochester graduate myself I couldn’t be more enthusiastic to share the opportunity to drive innovation and make a lasting impact in our community.”
