The Anthony L. Jordan Health Center plans an inaugural ceremony Friday to kick off the opening of an urgent care facility at its Holland Street facility.

A federally qualified health center, Jordan provides medical and dental care to Medicaid and to uninsured and underinsured low-income patients. It runs two inner city clinics in Rochester and one in Canandaigua. Federally qualified health centers are private non-profits overseen by the Department of Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Open seven days a week, the urgent care facility will treat walk-in patients with no prior appointment, a feature officials say will improve access to care for a population that does not always find it easy to schedule or keep appointments.

Also planned for the renovated ground floor space are radiology services, including X-rays and mammography. Funding for new mammography equipment is being provided by Highland Hospital and the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. Highland’s radiology personnel plan to staff the X-ray and mammography services, which are slated to begin in July.

Among dignitaries slated to attend the Friday ceremony are Sen. Joseph Robach, R-Greece, Assemblyman David Gantt, D-Rochester, and

“Access to health care is a crucial component in the fight to break the cycle of poverty, and I am grateful that the Jordan Center is willing to play such an important role in that fight,” Rochester Mayor Thomas Richards said in a statement.
