Harris Corp.’s RF Communications division in Rochester has received a contract with a potential value of $36 million from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide a new system that the company developed to address critical applications in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

The company said its lightweight, tactical device leverages new intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to provide greater situational awareness to dismounted soldiers.

RF Communications employs some 2,100 local workers.

Shares of Harris (NYSE:HRS) were trading midday at $49.38, down roughly 1 percent from Tuesday’s close of $49.80.
