Sonic Corp., the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in the nation, said Monday it is planning five locations in the Rochester market in the next four years.
The Oklahoma City-based company has reached a franchise agreement with Francis DeSimone, a Rochester-area executive with experience as an executive with St. Louis-based Panera Bread, Miami-based Burger King Corp. and Irvine, Calif.-based Taco Bell Corp., officials said.
“We have deep ties to the Rochester community, and we’ve been hearing for years that local residents want a Sonic,” DeSimone said in a statement.
The five locations here will double Sonic’s presence in New York. The nearest location is in Chenango, Broome County.
Sonic (Nasdaq: SONIC) has 3,500 drive-in restaurants in 43 states, and is expanding in the Northeast.
“Our franchisee’s team understands our brand and offers the right experience and community relationships to drive our expansion in Upstate New York,” said Robert Franke, Sonic’s senior vice president of franchise sales and international development.
