Rochester firefighters volunteer at Foodlink on 9/11 anniversary

Members of the Rochester Fire Department marked the National Day of Remembrance and Service volunteering at Foodlink Inc. on Mt. Hope Boulevard.

Rochester Fire Chief Salvatore Mitrano and more than 30 firefighters volunteered.

Congress designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Remembrance and Service as a way to pay tribute to the victims and survivors by bringing communities together for service projects. 

On Sept. 11, 2001, more than 300 New York City firefighters lost their lives during rescue efforts at the World Trade Center.
