COMIDA OKs tax breaks for LiDestri Foods expansion

Fairport-based food products manufacturer LiDestri Foods Inc. wants to buy a third building at Eastman Business Park to house its goods. The firm expects to add 60 employees as a result.

The County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency on Tuesday signed off on tax breaks totaling $2.5 million for the $12 million project, which includes the purchase of a 397,600-square-foot building on 25 acres at 1200 Lee Road in Greece.

The property and mortgage tax exemptions will bring economic benefits of nearly $4 million to the community, COMIDA representatives project.

LiDestri, which employs 700, would use the building as space for its products, which would free up manufacturing space in its two other buildings in the business park.

The company has invested $60 million in the first two buildings, both of which it has bought within the last four years. It also is creating a $5.3 million Innovation Center of Excellence at the business park to support its food, beverage and spirits business.

COMIDA also approved sales and mortgage tax exemptions of nearly $2.2 million for local real estate development entity Southpoint Cove LLC for the $54 million construction of a 358-unit apartment complex at 1420-1440 Empire Boulevard in Penfield.

The community benefit is projected to be $11.8 million.

The development will include 10 three-story buildings with underground parking, officials said. Nine jobs will be created over three years.

The Palmer Fish Co. Inc. was approved for sales tax breaks of $95,000 for a $1.2 million renovation of a refrigerated warehouse in Chili. The community economic benefit is set at $185,900.

The wholesale food-service distributor will use the 171 Weidner Road facility to house its distribution and cut-meat operations. The company, which employs 174, plans to create four jobs.

Palmer will retain its Direct to You market at 900 Jefferson Road in Henrietta, and renovate unfinished space for corporate offices, sales, purchasing, human resources and administrative personnel, officials said.

The entity 795 Monroe LLC was approved for custom tax abatements of $385,000 to redevelop the former Theater Confections building into 12 market-rate apartments in the city of Rochester’s Upper Monroe neighborhood.

The community benefit of the nearly $1.5 million project is pegged at $177,500.

The 12,786-square-foot building is located on 29 acres. One job will be created.

Flower City Glass Co. of New York LLC was approved for sales tax exemptions of $6,119 on purchases of $76,485 in sheet metal machinery. The community benefit is $31,229.

The 80-year-old family-owned company, which employs 65, plans to use the equipment to bend, form and cut sheet metal for window and door frames in commercial buildings. It plans to add one job.
