RG&E completes $50 million substation upgrade

Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. has completed a $50 million upgrade of its electric substation in Penfield, company officials announced Tuesday.

The work included the installation of two 115-kilovolt transformers, each weighing 186 tons, at the Harris Road site, officials said. The transformers were moved from Macedon, Wayne County, through Penfield to the location last year.

“These upgrades significantly improve the power capacity and power quality at the station,” RG&E president Mark Lynch said in a statement. “Adding state-of-the-art technology like this strengthens our infrastructure and enhances the reliability of our system for the benefit of our customers in eastern Monroe and western Wayne counties.”

The project took three years to complete.
