Perinton company OnCell Systems Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire mobile app technology company TourSphere Inc.

The deal will expand OnCell’s ability to provide a modern customer experience in the mobile app space, officials said.

Marrying Boston-based TourSphere’s capabilities and OnCell’s tour platform is a way to provide interactive tours to national parks, aquariums, colleges, museums, historic sites, universities, visitors’ bureaus, zoos and other businesses.

“This is great news for museums and cultural sites that want to use mobile technology to enhance the visitor experience,” said Rob Pyles, CEO of TourSphere, in a statement. “TourSphere developed a cutting-edge app builder and OnCell has incredible clients and customer service. It’s a perfect fit.”

OnCell was founded in 2006 by Thomas Dunne. The company has grown to 20 employees with 1,200 projects nationwide.

"Interactive mobile technology has just taken another step forward with the merger of OnCell and TourSphere," said Dunne, president and CEO. "I am thrilled that we will be able to better serve more sites and their visitors."

Services OnCell provides clients include mobile scavenger hunts, mobile surveys, mobile giving, text messaging and geoalerts, as well as a partnership with the Google Field Trip App.

The two main services of the company will continue to be mobile Web app tours and cell phone tours.

"OnCell's acquisition of TourSphere will help accelerate our vision for superior mobile tour solutions in the cultural space," said Steve Dubnik, chairman of OnCell and a local telecommunications veteran. "We now have a unique opportunity to deliver the most comprehensive mobile tour platform on the market."
