Retail gasoline prices up this week in region

Retail gasoline prices have averaged $3.66 a gallon in the past week, rising a total of 8 cents, GasBuddy Organization Inc.’s survey of 319 Rochester gas outlets found.

"The sub $3 a gallon gas was great while it lasted, but unfortunately it has nearly completely dried up," said Patrick DeHaan,’s senior petroleum analyst. "As of late Sunday night, zero states were seeing their averages under $3 a gallon.”

Prices on Monday were 7 cents a gallon lower than a year ago and were 4.2 cents a gallon higher than the same day a month ago. The national average shows an increase of 4 cents a gallon during December and is 2.2 cents a gallon higher than in 2012.

The rising price trend is not expected to last, however, as January and February have had weak demand for gasoline in the past, which should limit increases and keep prices in check for a few months, company officials said.

GasBuddy operates more than 250 websites, including, that monitor gasoline prices at over 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada.
