Vehicle sales rev up in August

New and used car sales in Monroe County picked up speed in August, Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.

Some 3,690 new vehicles were sold in Monroe County last month, a 12 percent increase from the 3,293 sold in July and a nearly 11 percent increase from the 3,330 sold a year ago. Used-car sales improved nearly 5 percent from July to August and nearly 11 percent from a year ago. A reported 2,021 used vehicles were sold in Monroe County last month, compared with 1,929 in July and 1,822 in August 2010.

Monroe County dealers sold 5,711 new and used cars and trucks last month, up 5,222 in July and 5,152 a year ago. Some 42,499 vehicles have been sold since January, a more than 14 percent increase from the 37,150 vehicles sold during the same period last year.
