Edward Hall will retire Aug. 31 as president and CEO of the Greater Rochester Visitors Association Inc., officials announced Monday.
Hall joined the GRVA, which markets itself as VisitRochester, in 1998. The GRVA board members have formed a search committee to find a replacement. A national search will begin this month, officials said.
Hall plans to work as a wildlife and landscape photographer, particularly in Africa, helping communities in southern Africa maintain their animal habitat and provide economic opportunities through tourism.
“Ed’s destination marketing experience has been invaluable to the organization,” GRVA chairman Craig Curran said in a statement.
“He has worked closely with the county executive and the mayor on tourism issues, developed new tourism promotion programs used by VisitRochester, and has been a voice for the industry throughout the region, state and nation. The board and staff, as well as many others in the community, will miss his insight and guidance.”
Hall came to Rochester after serving as president of the Birmingham (Ala.) Convention and Visitors Bureau and director of tourism for the state of Alabama.
“I couldn’t have asked for more support, loyalty or dedication from the board, staff and community, nor can I think of a better place to end my career than here in Rochester,” Hall said in the statement.
