Strong Arm Technologies Inc. has won this year’s Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest.

The company offers products aimed at increasing safety and productivity in the materials handling industry. Its flagship product is the Strong Arm Vest, a load-responsive vest that uses cables and attachments to transfer weight from your hands and arms and disperses it to other parts of your body as you lift.

Co-founder Sean Petterson said companies, including Target Corp. and Cooper Industries PLC, a global electrical products manufacturer, have expressed interest in the vest.

Strong Arm was named one of five finalists for the contest this month. For winning, the company received $25,000 in cash, along with services to help it grow. Petterson and co-founder Justin Hillery accepted the award.

SalesCongo Inc., which sells a cloud-based service platform that functions as an add-on to customer relationship management software from Salesforce.com, finished second. Quantum Loop Solutions LLC, which offers an application that allows merchants to manage their business from a mobile device, finished third.

The other two runners up were Custom-I, which has developed an optical sensor device and a contact lens that helps patients with abnormal corneas, and Touch Stream Solutions LLC, which develops and markets a home-care monitoring system for the elderly and their families.

The awards were presented Thursday at the 2012 Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Rochester.

The business plan contest is a collaborative effort of High Tech Rochester Inc., Digital Rochester Inc., the Entrepreneurs Network, Excell Partners, Greater Rochester Enterprise Inc., the Nazareth College of Rochester School of Management, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester's Simon Graduate School of Business.
