Business keeps growing at California Rollin'

A $120,000 expansion of the California Rollin’ Sushi Bar at Village Gate was marked at an event Thursday.

“The growth of any business in Rochester is wonderful news, but when that business is as popular as California Rollin’, an expansion ceremony is truly a special occasion,” city of Rochester Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon said.

Tom Beaman Sr. and Tom Beaman Jr. own the business. The elder Beaman, the restaurant’s master chef, opened his first sushi bar at the Public Market in 1990. He opened the Village Gate location in 1994.

A second California Rollin’ location is in the port terminal building in Charlotte.

The city provided $8,000 in small-business grants to the owners for the Village Gate expansion.
