Two Service Workers International Union bargaining units at the University of Rochester have opened contract negotiations with UR, union officials said Thursday.

Representatives of SEIU Local 200, which represents River Campus service workers, and 1199 SEIU United Healthcare, which represents UR Medical Center service employees including patient care technicians, nursing unit secretaries and surgical assistants, are jointly talking to UR negotiators. The two SEIU locals together represent 1,700 UR employees.

Both locals’ contracts expire Sept. 22.
