SUNY Geneseo physics department recognized

The physics department at SUNY College at Geneseo ranked second among the nation’s more than 500 mostly undergraduate institutions in producing students with physics degrees, data published by the American Institute of Physics found.

The study looked at largely undergraduate institutions for students graduating between 2008 and 2010. It found that SUNY Geneseo averages 26 physics graduates per year, and only the U.S. Naval Academy had more with an average of 31.

Charles Freeman, professor and chairman of the SUNY Geneseo physics department, said the statistics confirm the quality academic program the college has built.

“All of our students truly receive an outstanding education in physics, and a very large number work closely with our faculty on a wide variety of high-impact undergraduate research projects,” Freeman said. “This allows our students to gain valuable hands-on experience and to immerse themselves in an area that piques their interest.”
