Auction is last sale for Friendly's in Fairport

Rochester Business Journal
January 4, 2013

Friendly’s Ice Cream LLC restaurant on Fairport Road has closed its doors, but customers were given one last chance to hold on to something from the location via an auction held Friday morning.

The restaurant held an auction at 10 a.m. for all its equipment and contents, including freezers, refrigerators, tables, chairs, ovens, pictures and shelving. The auction was open to the public and the promotional flyer said, “Entire contents must go!”

Friendly’s, 77-year-old Massachusetts-based restaurant chain, has struggled in recent years. The company filed for bankruptcy in October 2011.

At one time, Friendly’s had nearly 500 locations. It has closed more than 100 of those in the last two years.

Friendly’s website lists 12 locations in the Rochester area, including the closed Fairport store.
