Windstream donates equipment to RIT

Windstream Corp. has donated $150,000 in communications equipment to Rochester Institute of Technology.

The equipment consists of Windstream’s Allworx Internet protocol-based phones, servers, hardware and software that will be used to help train students at RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology.

“As the industry relies more on the IP-based and mobile technologies, the need for new equipment is critical to keep the curriculum we offer RIT students current,” said Mark Indelicato, a professor in RIT’s electrical computer and telecommunications engineering technology department, in a statement. “Experimenting with this technology in the lab is one of the best ways to prepare our students with a competitive edge as they enter the telecommunications field after graduation.”

Arkansas-based Windstream is an advanced network communications provider. The company acquired Paetec Holding Corp. in 2011 and employs 770 workers locally.
