Financial Institutions names new president, CEO

Rochester Business Journal
February 20, 2013

Pittsford resident Martin Birmingham has been named president and CEO of Financial Institutions Inc., bank officials announced Wednesday.

He replaces Peter Humphrey, who resigned suddenly last August.

Birmingham had been president and chief of community banking since Humphrey’s departure. Prior to that, he was executive vice president and commercial banking executive and also served as Northeast regional president of FII subsidiary Five Star Bank.

Birmingham came to the Warsaw, Wyoming County-based bank in March 2005 as president and CEO of the Bank of Geneva after serving as Rochester regional president at Bank of America Corp.

“It’s an extraordinary time for Five Star Bank,” Birmingham said in a company statement. “We’re intently pursuing organic growth opportunities while remaining nimble to capitalize on marketplace changes.”
