Production is scheduled to begin April 30 on the filming of the “Amazing Spider-Man 2” in downtown Rochester, city officials announced Thursday.
Action sequences will be shot on Main Street between South Plymouth Avenue and East Avenue, with portions of Main Street closed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day until filming concludes, as late as May 9, officials said.
“This is a fun and exciting time for Rochester, and we are looking forward to welcoming the more than 300 crew members to our city,” Mayor Thomas Richards said in a statement.
“At the same time, this is a very large event, and our number one priority is making sure the public is informed of all the necessary road closures and that movie fans are not in any areas that may cause safety concerns,” he said.
Surrounding streets will be closed intermittently during filming, officials said, and some areas will be closed to pedestrians.
Richards met with the movie’s producers this week to discuss the logistics.
City officials have been meeting with representatives of the Rochester Police Department, the Rochester Fire Department, Monroe County offices of the state Department of Transportation, and the Rochester/Finger Lakes Film & Video Office.
The Rochester Transit System’s affected Main Street buses will be rerouted during the shoot.
The city will provide details related to the filming, including street maps with street and sidewalk closures, at www.cityofrochester.gov/spiderman.
