The School of Interactive Games and Media at Rochester Institute of Technology has a new leader.

RIT said Friday Tona Henderson, an associate professor in the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences for the last 13 years, will be the school’s new director.

Henderson is an expert in automated classification, structured markup and women in computing, RIT officials said. She has taught courses including introduction to interactive media and casual game development.

“Tona Henderson brings prior administrative experience, as well as a strong focus on student retention and achievement to the position,” said Andrew Sears, dean of the college. “In addition, her interest in increasing the number of women pursuing computing-oriented careers is a great asset as we ramp up new initiatives in this area.”

Henderson said she is approaching her new role with enthusiasm.

“It’s fitting that throughout my career I have always subscribed to the words of Benjamin Franklin, ‘We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing,’” she said.
