The African-American Giving Initiative, a subset of the Rochester Area Community Foundation, has released a book highlighting the racial and ethnic disparities in the region.

“The State of Black Rochester 2013: Education + Education = Equity” was released Thursday by the initiative. The 140-page paperback book pulls essays from local leaders on issues ranging from education to health care.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used by the Giving Initiative for future grants in the local community.

Members of the Giving Initiative also announced the group’s first “semi-grant,” given to the biennial Gateways Music Festival, slated for Aug. 14 to 18.

More information about the African-American Giving Initiative and the book can be found in Friday’s issue of the Rochester Business Journal.
