Fibertech Networks LLC has announced plans to expand its fiber optic network in Delaware.

The Brighton-based company already operates a 160-mile network in Wilmington, Del. Fibertech said it will extend its infrastructure by 80 miles in the state.

Late last year, Fibertech announced its biggest network expansion since the company’s inception in 2000 with plans to build new fiber networks throughout Ohio. To date, Fibertech has built or owns more than 9,000 route miles of metro networks in 23 markets on the East Coast.

“The expansion of our Delaware network ensures businesses have cost-effective alternatives for their critical bandwidth applications,” said John Purcell, CEO of Fibertech, in a statement. “We believe that the presence of our network and services will also help enhance economic development initiatives in its capital city and throughout the state of Delaware.”
