New car sales up in May compared with a year ago

New and used car sales in Monroe County continue to outpace sales from 2012, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.

Dealers sold 4,000 new vehicles in May, up more than 5 percent from 3,801 a year ago up, and more than 8 percent from 3,693 in April. Used-car sales were relatively flat from April and a year ago; some 2,112 used vehicles were sold in Monroe County last month, compared with 2,104 in April and a year ago.

Sales of new vehicles typically improve from April to May, RADA historical data shows.

Monroe County auto dealers sold 6,112 new and used vehicles in May, up nearly 4 percent from 5,905 a year ago  and more than 5 percent from 5,797 in April and. Some 27,572 vehicles have been sold here this year, compared with 27,098 in the same period a year ago.
