Fagan Dance executive director Lockhart steps down

Rochester Business Journal
November 13, 2013

Garth Fagan Dance has some changes at the top.

Ruby Lockhart announced that she has retired after 10 years as executive director of the non-profit organization. Lockhart will stay on to work with interim director Carolyn Bicks as a professional consultant during the leadership transition, officials said.

Lockhart was connected to the organization for 27 years as a donor, board member and executive director. She said she will miss her work in the organization, "talking to Garth every day and every evening."

"I am most proud of producing the successful collaboration with the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2012 that featured Garth Fagan Dance and the Wynton Marsalis Septet," Lockhart said. "It was a critical success for Garth and an outstanding artistic and financial achievement for the company."

Lockhart now plans on launching a new venture as a consultant to community and business groups.

"I don’t plan to retire from working," she said. "I plan to work with arts organizations and other businesses that can benefit from the breadth of my experience as an administrator, business owner and labor negotiator. I plan to volunteer in the City of Rochester to support the arts."
