Spot Coffee brewing up franchise model

Rochester Business Journal
February 6, 2014

Spot Coffee Ltd. plans to franchise its Rochester and Buffalo locations, and build a franchise model to develop new cafes in New York, the Toronto-based company said.

The company has retained Perinton-based law firm Harris Beach PLLC to prepare the franchise documents for its New York franchise license application.

The company has a cafe on East Avenue. It also has locations in Buffalo and Saratoga Springs as well as in Florida and in Toronto.

Spot plans to manage and retain ownership of a corporate-owned cafe in the Buffalo area and two in Toronto, and use those locations to train managers and employees, company officials said Wednesday. It will retain a 60 percent stake in two other Buffalo cafes and in Saratoga Springs.

The company is interviewing candidates to serve as senior vice president of franchise operations, officials said. It plans to have its New York franchise license soon and launch the franchise program within six months.
