Five early-stage companies have been selected as finalists out of 22 applicants for the 2014 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest.

The companies are competing for more than $50,000 in cash and prizes. On May 2 at the Sixth Annual Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Rochester, the five finalists are to present their business plans to a panel of judges.

The five finalists are:

  • Advanced Quantum Imaging
  •  IMSWorkX Inc.
  • Ovitz Corp.
  • RWP Energy Inc.
  • Turbett Surgical LLC

Each of the five contest finalists receive a combination of cash or services prizes to help their companies grow. The first place prize includes $25,000 cash. The luncheon drew 300 business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors last year.

“With 22 companies entered this year, we have a clear sign that Rochester’s entrepreneurial spirit is strong,” said James Senall, president of High Tech Rochester Inc., in a statement. “The quality of this year’s applicant pool was outstanding, and whittling that field down was no easy task, but we’re excited for all of them and the promise they hold for success.”
