Datto Inc., a provider of backup, disaster recovery and storage software, will relocate to Rochester as the first local Start-Up New York tenant, officials announced Wednesday.

Rochester Institute of Technology will sponsor the company, which expects to employ 77 here, officials said.

Datto Inc.’s products and services lessen business downtime during catastrophic events, officials said.

The company was founded in 2007 by Austin McChord, who graduated from RIT with a degree in bioinformatics and holds several patents, the company website states.

Based in Norwalk, Conn., the business has grown by 300 percent in each of the last four years, the website states.

Start-Up New York was created by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to recruit start-up and out-of-state businesses to New York and operate tax-free for 10 years on land owned by state colleges and universities.

Twelve businesses have announced their intentions to locate in New York as part of the program, investing nearly $50 million and creating 400 jobs, officials said.

Eight of the 12 businesses are headed to the Buffalo area, with one going to Ithaca and two to New York City, officials said.
