An Illinois-based medical supplies company plans to open a 260,000-square-foot distribution center in Brockport.

Medline Industries Inc. will relocate its Allentown, Pa.-area distribution center to Brockport. It plans to open the Monroe County facility in September and phase out the Pennsylvania distribution center by October.

The Brockport center initially will employ 40, Medline spokesman John Marks said.

The 40 workers employed by the medical supplies firm’s Pennsylvania facility are being offered a choice: take severance pay or relocate. Any choosing to relocate can go to the Rochester-area center or take jobs at similar Medline facilities in Middletown, Orange County, or Maryland.

With $5.8 billion in revenues, Medline bills itself as the largest privately held U.S. manufacturer of medical supplies.

Based in the Chicago area, it is a direct supplier to hospitals, nursing homes, medical practice groups and retailers. Medline products include surgical masks and gowns, scrubs, laboratory equipment, wound dressings, wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment as well as other medical supplies.

“As our company continues to grow, we are proud to work with and serve the entire (Rochester) metropolitan area to help bring our products, clinical programs and supply chain services to even more healthcare providers throughout the greater Rochester area,” said Bill Abington, Medline president of global operations. "The location of our facility is ideal as it will enable us to deliver our products when and where our customers need them.”
