What brought you to Rochester? SUNY Geneseo. I fell in love with the Finger Lakes and never left.
Most meaningful career-related accomplishment: There are many professional accomplishments of which I am proud. One thing that comes to mind, however, is the fact that my career path allowed me to participate in the American Heart Association's Rochester Division board of directors. During my time with the AHA, we inspired the adoption of automated external defibrillators throughout the community. Only two weeks after installation of an AED at the Webster Aquatic Center, a woman went into cardiac arrest. With quick response from citizens and the lifeguard, the AED was used and a life was saved. This woman "crashed" three more times on the way to the hospital, where doctors were able to stabilize her. She is alive and healthy today. Nothing beats that.
Surprising fact: While I don't think too much about it, it seems that people are a bit awestruck when I tell them that I grew up in a family of nine kids and that my dad was a postman. We didn't have much materially, but we really enjoyed life.
