On the heels of winning the Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest this month, Strong Arm Technologies Inc. is the grand prize winner of the New York State Business Plan Competition.

The award was announced Thursday at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY Albany. As grand prize winners, the team led by Rochester Institute of Technology students Sean Petterson and Justin Hillery, receives $50,000 in cash and more than $20,000 in services to help its growth.

Strong Arm offers products aimed at increasing safety and productivity in the materials handling industry. Its flagship product is the Strong Arm Vest, a load-responsive vest that uses cables and attachments to transfer weight from your hands and arms and disperses it to other parts of your body as you lift.

Strong Arm beat out startups from Syracuse University and Cornell University, among others. More than 100 teams participated in the competition.
